Well my name is Manuel and I live in Fresno, CA.... I have a 1987 Mazda B2000... nothing special I suppose untill I scrap that little stock motor and make it a fire breathing monster of a mini truck! Well hopefully... haha. I am looking to have a little v8 fitted and bolted up at my neighbors shop however I still need this bad boy to pass smog so thats why im here to ask the people that have already done this sort of project. In mind I am looking for a crate 350 or 305 to put in there... keep it basic nothing fancy yet.... as far as the smog deal goes I know Ima have major problems just not sure what kind yet. So lend some advice is you have any to give. Thanks in advance and here is a pic's of my truck.

As far as putting in the new motor, will the motor have to meet smog requirements for its class/size and year? or anyone have any backround info of that type?

I'm not sure about Cali emissions standards but in Ga to pass emissions the engine has to be out of the same year or newer model and the engine has to be original equipment on your make/model. Buuuut since yours is older and they will just put it on the sniffer and check for idling as long as you can make the V8 put out the same or less emissions then your current engine then you might pass.

Well you have a good platform to start with i have a 351w in mine but i dont have to worry about the emissions, i have my inspection license, And im more then likly be going to to be getting a street rod title for my truck..I'd do a ford motor though the distributor is in the front, and doesn't get in the way of the firewall..

Man put in the 302 and if you get to it before i do then i can just copy EXACTLY what you did! except i have a body drop.
But i'd love to know exactly what you did and what problems you hit on your way through.

you putting in a fuel injected engine?

Anyways, Good luck

Well I have come to a solution for my smog problems which is easy and only a minor hassle. Simply tear out the current motor in a way which it will sit back in every 2 years when i have to re smog it. *Thanks to my neighbor who does it for a friend with a ford probe* So now all im looking for is motor sizes! I want to be able to keep the block small and have everything in a place to easily swap it out. Anyone know any good blocks? Lotta people telling me 305, 302, 350, 351. Comments:

they will all work

i'd personally go with a ford 302 or 351, just because the dizzy is in front and that saves some time with fitment issues. plus i like the way they sound

the question now is what you want, chevy or ford? since emissions is not an issue

It's gonna be a hassle taking it out every two year's, I could do it with the 351w but everythings so close it's hard to get to some stuff...
