i have a buddy thats workin on gettin a truck goin for me right now. and tha truck has a auto tranny. and when he tries to start it does nothin. cuz of a parkin switch on tha tranny. where it will only start in park. but now it wont do that. cuz tha switch is goin bad or somethin. is there any way to bypass it? need to know ASAP
ive seen this problem a few times, its might be a sticky switch, like if someone spilt pop or coffee all over it, if u turn the ignition on and run through the gears really fast then try it, or try starting in neutral
he tried all that and still nothin but he thinks he is gettin tha starter to click now. so hes gonna charge up tha batt. and try it then give me a call. im wonderin if its a bad ground some where.
yeah make sure there is a ground on the tranny going to the battery. Also on the side of the auto shifter down on the base part is a little tab. If you take that off.. when you hit the break you will see the switch move forward.. if its not doing that.. it could be stuck. Did it orriginally have an auto tranny? Because the manual and auto tranny floor boards are different and could be snagged on something. Will it start in nutral? Mine has a problem going all the way into park.. which has almost caused a few accidents when i leave it running to check my tranny fluid.. seen tommy boy where he backs up at the gas station with the door open? But ne ways. Check the switch and make sure its moving. Also check your wires for the starter and make sure its not something else thats causing the problem.
