HEY GUYS,

HERE IS A LITTLE SOMETHING I HAVE STUMBLED ACROSS FOR
THOSE OF YOU RUNNING EITHER THE 32/36 OR 38/38 WEBERS.

YOU MUST USE THE PLASTIC INTAKE HOSE/TUBE (OVAL) THAT ATTACHES TO THE FACTORY AIR CLEANER THAT RAN TO THE RAD. SUPPORT NEXT TO THE COIL. FREE IF YOU HAVE ONE, $35 FROM MAZDA, LESS FROM A JUNK YARD.

THEN GET THIS SNORKLE KIT (PART OF IT, THE ADAPTER PLATE & PLENUM)
I BOUGHT JUST THE ADAPTER PLATE & PLENUM FOR $89 + SHIPPING, K&N SELLS AN ADAPTER PLATE P/N 85-1061 $79.95 FROM SUMMIT, AND THE PLENUM P/N 85-8921 $187.69. I WENT THE CHEAPER WAY, IF YOU WANT THE BLACK PAINT A $4 CAN OF KRYLON WILL WORK JUST FINE TO SAVE @ $174.

THEN GET ONE OF THESE K&N ROUND TAPERED FILTERS RC-2580 (2" I.D OPENING) $31.69 SUMMIT, RC-2500 (1 15/16"I.D. OPENING) $32.99
RC-2320 (1 13/16" I.D. OPENING) 31.69 SUMMIT RC-1070 (1 11/16" I.D. OPENING). THE FIRST TWO WILL SLIP OVER THE ROUND END OF THE INTAKE HOSE/TUBE WITH A LITTLE TRIMMING, THE LATTER TWO WILL SLIP INTO THE ROUND END OF THE INTAKE HOSE, YOU ONLY NEED ONE, AND IT IS YOUR PREFERENCE AS TO WHICH ONE, AND WHAT WAY YOU MOUNT IT.

HOW TO PUT IT ALL TOGETHER,
MOUNT THE ADAPTER PLATE TO THE CARB, PUT THE PLENUM ON TOP, SLIDE THE OVAL SHAPED END OF THE INTAKE HOSE/TUBE ONTO THE PLENUM (THIS IS UPSIDE DOWN FROM THE FACTORY CONFIG AS IT WILL BE ON THE OTHER SIDE OF THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT NEAR THE BATTERY) USE A HOSE CLAMP AND TIGHTEN IT DOWN (NOT TOO TIGHT AS YOU WILL BUST THE PLENUM) THEN ON THE ROUND END OF THE INTAKE HOSE/TUBE PUT YOUR K&N ROUND TAPERED FILTER ON AND CLAMP IT DOWN. YOU CAN REUSE THE MOUNTING BRACKET (THAT IS NEXT TO THE COIL) THAT HELD THE END OF THE INTAKE HOSE TO HOLD THE END OF THE INTAKE HOSE/TUBE, JUST MOVE IT FROM ONE SIDE TO THE OTHER.

VWALLA, COLD AIR INTAKE FOR @ $150.

Hey guys he hasn't been on here in awhile. I've got the same pieces he's talking about. I ordered mine off of eBay but you can find it on several websites. You can use a cheap Honda intake kit and filter or do like I did and build your own . I took some tubing and had someone weld it up for me and I added a filter on the end. Here's a pic

umm, yeah, what he said there. Personally though on a carb I don't see much of an advantage running a cold air setup like that. It seems that it might even be a bit too restrictive. My guess for what might be the best for a weber carb would be a similar steup to a shaker hood assembly over the carb with a wide open element filter.
