Has anyone did this swap?

I have seen a Vortec 4.3 in an 88 ext cab. I'm not quite sure what it takes but they were using a floor shifter for the 700r4 tranny.

Ultimate customs actually makes a kit to do this swap. I've been looking into it myself.

"This is the only line of engine swap kits available for two-wheel drive Mazda Trucks 1986-1993.
-Ultimate Customs Metal Craft offers three kits for this series of truck. V8 305-350 (Chevy), V8 302 (Ford), V6 4.3 (Chevy).
-Each Kit has been engineered for the easiest install possible. All kits are based on OEM parts and makes searching for additional parts a snap.
-Instructions for each kit is complete with part numbers and pictures for all steps, including wiring, plumbing, Speedo cables and rad.
-Our V6 kit uses everything available from GM including a fan
-Our V8 kits use G.M./Ford parts, but you are required to purchase some after market parts.
Example: 305/350Chevy and 302 Ford Kit
Short water pump - 14" or two 10" fans -Rad Modification
-As for transmissions, Due to the factory high gear ratio of the Mazda truck, an overdrive transmission recommended for the 305/350 kit. A TH 350/200 R4 and the 700R4 can be used.
-For the 302 kit, We recommend a three speed or an overdrive automatic transmission.
-The V6 and V8 Chevy kit complete with motor mounts, front suspension Crossmembers, hardware and instructions that give all the facts.

V6- Cost $160.00 U.S. funds
V8- Cost $195.00 U.S. Funds
Includes shipping in the Continental U.S.A. "

When I bought my v8 kit from them years ago the reccomended using the 200 4R tranny - they say it fits in better than the 700 R4. that is if you want to use an auto in it. I'd like to keep it a 5 speed.

I'm pretty sure that Ultimate went out of business at the beginning of this year. I'm bet that you can still get this kit somewhere though. I have seen a old Ultimate 5.0 swap kit at a shop a few weeks ago, so I'd bet there are a few 4.3 ones out there. If your in Canada I can get you the number of a shop that will probably have one or can make you one.

I was in contact with them not too long ago. Will be too bad if they have gone ouot of business.
