what you guys think, carbed 350 with what tranny, I'm seriously considering it. although I'd be forced to keep the mazda so long that I wouldn't want to sell it sounds like a plan dosen't it

depends, Im a ford guy but i have a v8 in my mazda do u want overdrive or not?

Do you want overdrive, and are you keeping the factory rear end? Cause you don't want to run a manual on that factory nissan rear end.

stock rear for now, straight would be cool, auto prob more practical.also not set on Chevy V8 as I'm really more of a ford man myself. I've got access to a 351M but not too sure about it cause it is a modified(michigan) rather than a windsor.... Something simple and reliable.

well the 351M is a more saught after motor.. pratcially the same tho.. and a ford motor would be more pratical because of the dizzy in the front. For a 351 i would search for more of a C6 3spd auto tranny. They were built in the bigger fords like vans and trucks.. so they can handle the load. And the factory rear end will be fine as long as you don't rape the crap out of it.

are you sure about it being more sought after? I thought it was sort of a bastard motor in relation to the cleveland or windsor? my understanding is that its basically a 400 with diff. crank and pistons. Not sure of all the pros and cons to the (M). I agree about the dizzy though.would I need to do any front suspension mods or would stock torsion bars be good enough?

Sorry.. i was thinking about the Cleveland.. your right.. and as for front suspension mods.. defenatly BAGS lol.. kidding though.. the torsions will be just fine.

Yeah if it were a cleveland, it would be in the works. lol

Hey man if your gonna put a Ford engine in it get at me. I'd go with a built c4 tranny i have a c6 in mine with a 351winsor and it was a bitch to get the tranny to fit! The c4 is much smaller and now days there built stronger then mosts c6's. There also alot cheaper to find parts for. It's getting hard to even find parts for a c6 tranny. You'd have some issues getting a 351c or a 351m in it b/c the intake and block are wider than the 351w. If you gonna do a ford v8 i'd do a 289 if u can find one, a 302 or a 351w there's so many aftermarket parts for these engines it's not funny. The wiring is really easy if u go with a carb'd ford v8 and a electronic distributor. Let me no if u have any questions...

the 351 was an idea because its avail. free. An old 289 would be cool. can you tell me a few junkyard finds that ran 289. aside from stangs.
