Fellas I need help this is my first Maz its an 87 2200 5pd se-5 it starts only when gas pedal is floored as soon as you let of it quits the idle is real slow and rough i changed the fuel filter added fresh gas and even some dry gas i took off the air cleaner and it spurts out little drops off gas from the carb and if you add gas to the carb it i guess floods out. Any ideas or suggestions?

Try cleaning it inside and out with a good carb and choke cleaner.

sounds like your carb. def get that baby cleaned out. try spraying some starting fluid in the carb when ur cranking it. plus make sure all those little vacuum lines are connected.

Well today i replaced plugs, cap, rotor, and wires it fire right up ran like hell than went back to same rough idle when floored. I am going to try and bottle feed the carb tomorrow and see if any luck any more ideas will be greatly used

Question where is the choke located I have been searching other threads and guys have the same problem and refer to the choke?

our trucks have an electric choke, the flap in the bore of the carb is the actual choke, and if it is closed and hanging it would cause your problem, or there could be a vacum line off. best bet is hose it down with carb cleaner, let it set, then give it a try again.

I read this post and interpreted it as your truck does the rough idle thing when your accelerating. is that right? or all the time? if its when it's accelerating (or should be accelerating when floored) sounds like it could be your accelerator pump in the carb. could be sticky/stuck

i had some what of the same problem, i ended up taking the nox pipes running into the intake housing shoving bolts down them to block them, the truck ran like a dream, it worked awsome, it might be your problem to, to much exhaust going back into the engine, or the clutch liek all these boys are saying,... i replaced my carb., with another rebuilt one, and it still ran like crap only until i did this.....just an idea.....

thanks guys i will do some more tinkering./ Also i was thinking of running a different carb like a weber if i do that will that get rid of all the lines and be easier to tune. what did the weber carbs come on from the factory?
