I just rebuilt the engine on my mazda and it is running really well except for an oil leak. there is a weep hole in the bottom of the transmission and oil is coming out of that hole. It had a brand new real seal put in it when I rebuilt it then after I got it all hooked back up and running it leaked so I pulled the tranny and put another one in. Anyone have any ideas on what this could be?

Hate to tell you this.. but your rear main seal.. new or not.. is probably what is leaking.. thats what the weep hole is there to drain out oil from. Is it possible that whatever seal you used wasnt correct for the application? Did the new seal look like the old one? Did you use RTV gasket sealer at any corner points to make a complete seal? Lots of reasons it could be leaking. Hope I am wrong about this for your sake man.. a total PITA job and a frustrating one at that after all the work you have already put into it.

ok I replaced the seal again and but some ATV sealant around it and this time instead of just dripping out of the hole it was pouring out. I tore it all apart and the seal still looked perfect. I looked at everything real good and there aren't any cracks or anything. The block is fresh from the machine shop so its basically brand new. Could the end play in the crankshaft have anything to do with it or does anyone have another idea?

Ok I have it all torn apart again and I'm looking over everything very carefully. The rear main seal housing has a small chip in it. Its not all the way threw it just like a small chip that you can feel with your finger. Could this chip cause the rear seal not to seal and the oil go around it and cause the leak?

Any chance you can post a pic? Might make it easier for us to see whats going on and be able to give better answers.

I pulled my motor out with 157000 on it and I pulled the flywheel off and one of the bolt holes was full of oil
This struck me as odd the motors only been out for a cluch removal and replacement.
I wrecked one 91 mazda b2200 and went out looking for another truck. Found another 91 mazda so i kept the motor in case something went wrong with my new truck.

Did anyone come up with a solution to this as I am having the exact same issue now. basicly the same situation except I did not notice any thing wrong with housing.
