Anyone fimilar with the mazda 2.0 liter sohc 8 valve FE turbo engine found in the 86-87 mx-6/626? It has almost an identical cylinder head as the b2000/2200. I happen to have a b2200 FI intake and TB, and an 89 ford probe turbo and manfold which bolts right up to the b2000/2200 head. The 86-87 mx-6/626 turbo fi computer should be a good computer to run for a b2000/2200 with a FI intake and turbo. The mx-6/626 uses a vacuum advance distributor just like the b2000/2200 too! I would assume the timing maps are similar. So what else am i missing? Russ D? anyone?

the one i had was an 89 mx-6 12 valve,
you'll need a larger fuel pump, i suggest an inline walbro 190..........works great, and pretty well priced

the head is a similar design but the cam is different. Turbo engines run a flatter profile because of the disadvantage of longer duration on a turbo.

Also, I know you are using the 2.0l bottom end, so the fuel maps of the 2l turbo ECU would in theory work. But because the compression ratios is different, the fuel map will actually be lean under boost. Additionally, because the turbo motors have vacuum advance distributors doesnt mean they are curved the same for advance. The turbo engine will run less total advance to avoid detonation. You will need to take the guts from the turbo dizzy to use in your truck dizzy.

The drawback to the stock system is using the flapper AFM, and not having any control over the fuel and timing curves to allow higher boost.

Aside from that, sounds like a real possibility for you. I would have thought you would go MS II after going through the learning curve on your Kia motor, the MAP sensor of the MS is good for something like 20 lbs of boost.

The ideal way to swap in an 8v turbo and EFI is to do the WHOLE swap. Without even one part of the orginal setup, you will realize limitations.


Oh and Jim I have a fuel pump and sender from the RX7! It even has an extra set of leads to turnb on a low fuel warning light! How cool is that?

Russ! Thanks for the input as always. I was hoping to put together a mazda conglomeration of parts to make a FI turbo B2000 with a stock ECU. I guess megasquirt would be easier. I actually just found my turbo is junk- so I might just do FI for now. I really want to keep the dizzy. I am sure MS-1 and a dizzy with the stock B2200 intake would work just fine. If I went to boost in the future though- is the dizzy going to F- me up? I don't want detonation! I like the simple nature of the dizzy with vac advance.

Oh Russ I got the stock fuel pump assembly from the B2200 FI truck. I am hoping to just slip it right into my tank. I know it will fit, but I am concerned that since it's not a FI tank- fuel slosh may be a problem. Guess I could just try it and see what happens!

A low fuel light would be awesome, and I'm sure that rx-7 pump is going to deliver more fuel.

haha that picture, a friend in CT took that picture of a lady at a roundy round track carrying a whole plate of smothered chili dogs, and he asked the rhetorical question "I wonder what that will look like coming out". SO I answered. I have a whole series of photos, showing anxious anticipation all the way through relief.

In any event, you wont be able to use the stock dizzy very well, because the higher compression will make it more prone to detonation, and you cant just twist the distributor to retard the timing because, while it may fix your problem ON boost, it will create other problems OFF boost. Like idle, namely, where you should have +10. If you retard total timing on boost from say +37 to +22, you will run with less detonation at the top end and the engine will RLS at the bottom.

Thats why iginition control is as important if not MORE important for a turbo'd engine as proper fuel mapping is. For the minimal added cost, I would stick with MSII and have a streetable monster instead of just a monster.
