that is some serious coin for 500 hp! must be pretty damn light weight though. being that it is all aluminum.

I rebuilt the head on my mazda and had the same problem. The rocker shaft holes where the hydraulic lifters get there pressure from where clogged and some of the lifters wasnt getting any oil pressure. I pulled the rocker arm assembly off and soaked the shafts in a parts washer for a day and then blew them out with compressed air. Worked fine.

Somewhere on mazdatruckin they are saying that the fitting in the oil passage way is different. So if you throw hyrdraulic lifters on a motor that originally had mechanical then you probably arent gettin enough oil to them.

I started my truck the other day and it was really loud but i guess this is normal for these trucks. I just changed the oil in it. I here the lifters have trouble stayin pumped up and leak down. I found if you shut the truck off then start it back up a few times it goes away. Instead of letting it do major damage to the motor.

My 93 had a tick (lifter ) on startup I talked to the dealer and they said if it lasts only a few minutes it's not doin damage he then showed me one that was stuck and the ends were all mushroomed.

mine is still doing it but you hear it only at speeds over about 30 and rarely on start up. it is really pissing me off, especially since i just rebuilt the eng. and put all new lifters in it. i am pretty much to the point of screw it i will blow it and put a 302 in her. i just need to save up the money first. haha. i just wish i could be done with the eng on this thing and move on to cosmetics!

Try running some lucas oil stabilizer in your oil, or like I said run some seafoam through it that seems to clean the valve train fairly well.

yeah i run lucas all of the time, good stuff, i think i need to run the seafoam through it and clean it out, i am thinking maybe one of the oil passages has some build up in it or something because it doesn't do it all of the time. you hear the lifters pinging all the time but on start up it gets crazy at times. it is really frustrating seeing as how i just rebuilt the damn thing and have pulled it apart a few times trying to find weird problems. my kind of luck i guess!

My poor truck ticks worse the warmer it gets, lol. I thought it was the valves needing adjutsing, until I pulled the cover off and saw the hydraulic lifters, lol. I guess someone had put a different head on my truck at one time, sinc the 2200s were manual valves until 88. Such is my luck with this truck.
