Hello All. It has been awile since I last posted. Anyway, today I installed a Weber 38 Carb. It came as a kit with all brackets/bolts/adapters/etc. Only vac lines I have hooked up are brake booster and vac advance from dizzy. Truck has new fuel pump, and filter... seems to be filling up the filter, and gettin gas fine. I also installed a new cap/rotor/wires/pluga/coil. Problem is, when starting, the truck will run around 300-500 RPM (BEARLY running), then just dies. Giving it any gas during this time will kill it even faster. It WONT stay running or idle whatsoever. Anyone have any suggestions on what this could be? I would appricate any help!!

Thanks Guys
Corey

HAVE YOU DONE THE INITIAL CARB ADJUSTMENTS? IDLE MIXTURE, ETC.?

First of all, the only reason I bougt the webber was because the STOCK carb was acting the same way. IT wouldnt stay running, only making it to 500rpm before dying, This just makes me assume that it isnt the way the carb is set up condisering its doing the same thing?

IF THE FACT. CARB WAS OUT OF KILTER THEN REPLACING IT WITH THE WEBER WITH IT PROPERLY SET UP IT SHOULD RUN FINE. TRY DOING THE INITIAL CARB SETUP AS PER THE INSTRUCTIONS WITH THE KIT, IF IT DIDN'T COME WITH SOME YOU SHOULD BE ABLE TO GET THAT FROM THIS SITE
IF THAT STILL DOESN'T WORK, IT MAY BE THAT YOUR TIMING IS OFF SOMEWHAT AND YOU WILL NEED TO CHECK AND ADJUST IT, YOU CAN
FIND MORE ON IT ON

IT COULD ALSO BE THAT THE VAC ADVANCE ON THE DIZZY IS BAD, AND NOT ADVANCING THE TIMING, YOU WOULD NEED TO CHECK TO MAKE SURE IT IS STILL PULLING A VACCUM.

ALSO YOU SAID THAT THE TRUCK HAS A NEW FUEL PUMP, IS IT A STOCK REPLACEMENT, OR AN ELECTRIC AFTERMARKET? IF YOU PUT MORE THAN 3.5 PSI OF FUEL TO THE WEBER IT WILL FLOOD THE FUEL BOWL WHICH WILL REQUIRE A FUEL PRESSURE REGULATOR.

GOOD LUCK!
IF YOU STILL CAN'T GET IT RUNNIN HALLA
BACK & WE'LL TRY SOMETHING ELSE.

Ok, I appriciate the input. Tomorrow I will check if the advance is pulling vac. If it is, I will see if I can get someone to check the timing. The fuel pump I replaced is a OEM mechanical pump. Hopefully I can get this figured out, Ive spent enough money already! :[

I will let you know what my findings are, again, thx for the help!

NOT A PROB BRO!
YOU SHOULD BE ABLE TO RULE OUT FLOODING THE FUEL BOWL AS IT IS A STOCK REPL. PUMP, DO CHECK THE VAC ADVANCE, AND DOUBLE CHECK THE TIMING, IF BOTH OF THOSE ARE OK, I'D SAY THAT THE CARB JUST NEEDS TUNED.

Well, here what I decided. I work @ a Nissan dealership, and the shop foreman here has worked on cars all his life. Soooo I think Im going to tow it up here for him to look at for me. He said it could be either a ground problem, dizzy problem, or a timing problem. HOPEFULLY he can get it figured out for me in a decent amount of time. (Labor rate here is $74/hr) If anyone else has had the same problem, any input would help! I will post the results after it has been looked at.

the first thing i would check would be the dizzy & timing, only then would i start chasing ground probs.....esp @$74 an hour. check to make sure that none of the plug wires got crossed when you put them on. also when you put the plugs in were they pre gapped? if not you would have to gap them for it to run right.

good luck, hope it doesn't cost an arm & leg to get it running...

Well the verdict is in. From what I was told by the shop, the harmonic balancer and pullys need to be pulled off, and put back on the right way. I guess someone had that motor apart at one time and didnt put it back together correctly. They tried to time it, and got it to start and run, just real rough. They said they couldnt time it anymore, because everything else was so outta line. Does this sound right?

If anyone has any info on this, it would help. Im trying to figure out if I should go ahead and have someone do all that work :/ Thanks Guys
