factory is R-12
you cannot buy R-12 unless you are certified. so the solution is R-134a that you can get at the local parts store.
you will need to buy the retro-fitting kit from the parts store also which comes with a fitting and "the blue hose" lol.
now this is where it gets tricky. does your system still have refrigerant in it still? is the system still oiled? if you had a leak and everything leaked out, your system mostlikely has air in it, in which you will need to get the system vacuumed. in which you will pay a lot more for the equipment rather than to just get a shop do it for you. plus they can charge the system with R-12, although more expensive, it results in a slightly cooler blowing a/c compared to R-134a
