I got a spare intake, cleaned it,ported and polished it, had it powdercoated. Will mount it on new engine. Couple of questions.Old intake on truck and this one have hot water chokes.Iwould like to get rid of that but there is a large plate and the choke mechanism attached to the rear of the manifold. Anyone got any suggestions for closing that off. Also, I am trying to decide between Weber 32, 38 or the new 34. Any suggestions. This carb will hopefully be feeding a Paeco motor with about 148 hp in front of an automatic, so it needs tobe ereliable and fairly compatible with the engine and A/T setup. also, how is everone else closing off unneeded vacuum ports. Thanks for your help. Bj

on the chokes, are you talking about the plate on the opposite side of the intake from the engine (facing the passenger side)? that is part of the egr sys. they are making a block off plate for that and one for the old mech. fuel pump location on the head, as both are going to be gone.

as for the carb, either the new 34, or the 38, as you would have to do some serious rejetting on a 32/36 to get the most out of it.

on the vac ports, summit or jegs sells little caps to put on those ports, in about any color imaginable pretty cheap.

not really up to speed on the a/t's as mine & most others are 5-spd, & by no means knockin you on using the a/t! i'd be carefull putting that motor in front of an automatic tranny tho as i don't know if it will hold up to that much hp, just make sure to check the fluid reguarly & change it if it starts looking or smelling burnt. may want to find one, and have it rebuilt & ready for a spare just in case....i think the a/t uses some sorta vacumm as a kickdown for the shift points, check to make sure this won't have adverse effects on what carb you choose.

Thanks for the info.I guess i will go 34 on the Weber. U said "they are making a plate to block off EGR." Is "they" the Huntsville shop u are using or is that Paeco? If it is ur shop, can they make 2 cause I am going to need something to block that ugly hole off.I talked to the guy at Paeco and he said they have put the Stge 2 in front of A/T equipped trucks with no problem.Anything bigger is not recommended.I had truck up in the air last nite and cant find a vacuum line to the tranny so I will have to research some more about how the downshift mech works-is it vacuum or pure mechanical or does it work off internal tranny pressure. Thanks for the input I really appreciate it. Next time u r going to be in Chatt give me notice and we will grab lunch. BJ

Bump. I have been changing the tranny fluid about every 5th oil change and switched to synthetic the last time. Made a world of difference in the way the thing shifted, much smoother. When we cleaned the pan there was a little dirt it it ,but no metal so I think tranny is doing fine.If the torque numbers dont go way up with the new motor,I think it will handle it,providing the nut behind the wheel doesnt get torqued too tight.
