SLAMMED I HAD AN 84 ,THE SAME EXACT THING HAPPENED TO ME . I TRIED THE BUSHING AT THE BOTTOM OF THE SHIFTER (WHERE THE SHIFTER CONNECTS INSIDE THE TRANS TO THE ACTUAL ROD THAT MOVES THE GEARS) THAT WASNT IT .THE REPACED THE SYNCROS,THAT WASNT IT. FINALLY I FOUND A REPLACEMENT FROM A JUNKYARD AND TOOK A HUGE SLEDGE HAMMER TO THE TRANS FOR WASTING A WEEK OF PERFECTLY GOOD 17 YR OLD DRIVIN TIME. AFTER TAKING THE TRANS OUT 3 TIMES IT WAS GOOD STRESS REDUCTION. OK TO MAKE A LONG STORY LONGER, FIND A REPLACEMENT. KEEP IN MIND I HAD A 65 YEAR OLD TRUCK MECHANIC (GRAMPS)GUIDING MY HANDS EVERY STEP OF THE WAY.

oh im going to find a replacment the mazda aint down for the count i blew a head gasket this past winter fixed it and truck still runs like a champ.

Upon doing research the pre 84 mazdas are notorious for the trannys going out.

So im still searching for one might rebuild it since i know my motor is good for another 100,000 miles
