this has probably been brought up before but oh well. i rebuilt my engine about 15000 miles ago and am thinking about converting to synthetic now. right now i am running castrol 10w30. my problem is that once my engine heats up i have a lifter that goes to pinging. i just put all new lifters in but the jackasses that rebuilt the head screwed me pretty good. it is a long story. anyways i plan on running this engine til it blows up then dropping either a 4.3l in her or a v8. but for now i want to know how to get this engine a little quieter without have the head rebuilt again. will synthetic help or make it worse? i know that a thicker oil will make it better but i don't want to blow any seals. any help will be much appreciated. thanks.

step 1, get video cam, step 2 loosen off ur rear brakes step3 do the biggest burn out that 2.2 can do, lets say untill the tires pop, and make sure to post the video

haha i would do a burn out but it would only last for this ........ long. haha. and then nothing would happen.

you could always try the seafoam trick to quite the lifter...then run the synthetic oil after you get the seafoam out....
generally from what i understand your supposed to break an engine in with mineral oil (non-synthetic), then the first oil change after the break in period swap to the synthetic, ur not really supposed to swap after having put more than the breakin mileage on it....
you only have 15k on it i'd say you'll be alright with swappin to syn, esp if you aren't too woried since your planning on swappin in a 4.3 or w/e....

I went to synthetic when truck had over 100k on it.I also run 1/4 can of Seafoam in truck all the time.No rattle,no lifter sticking and no oil leaks or consumption.FYI.BJ

well i ran the seafoam for about 200 miles then drained it and added castrol fully synthetic 10w30. the ticking continues if i get up to 70 mph, but no where near as bad as before.

Seafoam??

Qu'est-ce que c'est?
Wat ist das?
What is it?

it is an additive. it cleans engines and fuel systems. it is like berryman's b12.
