has anyone ever bothered to port/polish their intake/exhaust manifolds? My engine is apart and both have been hot tanked and both still seem to have a layer of crud stuck hard to the metal. Any suggestions?

I busted out the air tool and polished them up till they shined . I pretty much did whatever I could with it. You can't get that deep but whatever you do will improve it. Do both intake and exhaust. It takes some time but it's worth it .

if a port/polish job is to be effective, take ur new intake and exhaust gaskets, lay them on the manifolds, take a magic marker and outline where u need to trim the manifolds,if any.A Dremel tool with the grit abrasive will take off the edges of the manifold and then smooth and polish down into the manifolds throat as far as u can get. Then ur gaskets and ports will line up and not impede gas in or exhaust out.U will notice a difference.BJ
