Ignore this post... Read the one below!

Ok,

I have basically concluded that my valve seals are shot. I have talked to mechanics, all of which say I should get a new motor, however, I think I may try to replace them first.

What I need to know is:

1) How hard would you rate this?
2) How long would you guess this fix would take?
3) If I replace the valve seals, what other gaskets will be disturbed and need to be replaced?
4) How much approx. are the seals I need? Where should I get them?
5) Is it worth it or should I get a new motor?
6) Possibly a quick explanation of how its done?
7) What tools will I need to do this job?

Any help at all would be great.

Thanks,
Zac

P.S. If anyone has done this, do you have any pics to share?

You know what, I have changed my mind, to me, after reading all of the other posts, I have new questions.

What would be the best/cheapest option?

1) Complete engine rebuild by pro
2) Engine swap with imported motor w/ low kms
3) Engine swap with rebuilt motor

What would you estimate some of these costing?

I am leaning towards # 1. Any ideas on a price?

Also, I suppose, while I am at it, What engine swap in with no mods and can use the existing tranny? Prices?

Zac

P.S. My motor is a 2.2L manual carb.

Paeco will build u a complete Super Relaibility Engine, direct swap 2200 for about 3500 bucks US.160 hp and built to last.Complete rebuild/blue print job for a 2200 by a "pro" at about 60/hr US for labor will run about 2500 bucks including parts and u will have what u got 85 hp + or - a few.Japan spec 2200 engine if u can find one and if u r in Canada u can get them easier than we can in US are anywhere from 1500-2000 bucks depending on mileage.I think that they are about 90 hp stock over there. All these are direct bolt up for ur tranny and even the Paeco is designed to work with and not grenade ur stock tranny. Bump. ANd if u really have deep pockets and want to scare the Hell out of yourself, Paeco will build u a full out 2200 that puts out 220 hp for a mere 6500 US-toliet paper not included. LOL. BJ

Kinda looking for cheaper options. It is my daily. Want something reliable and that runs very nice. So a Full engine rebuild would be about $2500? And a engine swap about 15-2500$? Ok, those seem pretty good. How much is an average engine rebuild? Including, all seals and gaskets and new pistons and what not, you know the commonly reoplace parts.

Thanks,
Zac

I PAID @ $900 USD FOR MY HP ENGINE KIT FROM

BUT IT INCLUDED FORGED PISTONS THAT ARE $450 A SET WITH RINGS & WRIST PINS....
IF YOU START TEARING INTO THE ENGINE, PARTS & LABOR FOR THE MACHINE WORK THE CHEAPEST YOU'LL GET OUT WITH A REBUILT DONE RIGHT IS $2000 USD..THIS IS NOT JUST BUYING PARTS & SLAPPING THEM BACK INTO THE MOTOR W/O CHECKING OUT WHAT YOUR REUSING TO MAKE SURE THAT IT WON'T RUN FOR 10K THEN NEED TO BE TORN DOWN AGAIN....SURE YOU CAN GET PARTS ON THE CHEAP & JUST PUT THEM BACK IN PROBABLY FOR UNDER $1200....GROOMS ENGINES IN NASHVILLE, TN QUOTED ME RIGHT AR $1900 WITH MY MOTOR FOR A CORE SWAP......WHEN I FINALLY GET MY ENGINE BACK I'LL END UP HAVING CLOSE TO $4500 IN IT & IT SHOULD PUT OUT INBETWEEN 180-190 HP TO THE FLYWHEEL WHICH IS CHEAPER THAN THE @$7000 THAT PAECO IND WANTS FOR THE 220HP ENGINE & MINE SHOULD BE MORE RELIABLE / STREETABLE THAN THEIRS AS WELL
JUST KEEP IN MIND CHEAPER ISN'T ALWAYS BEST......QUALITY PARTS & A RELIABLE MACHINE SHOP ARE KEY TO A GOOD REBUILD EXPERIENCE!
