most likely you dont need to rebuild the entire motor, just the head, its probably bad valve seals, rebuilding the head should run you int he ball park of $250 including parts ( thats if you do the labor yourself, taking it off and putting it back on )

does it just smoke on start up or the hole time. most the time if it starts at start up and stops the yes I would say rebuild the head. (most the time those seals will heat up and stop letting oil past) It could also be a stuck ring letting oil blow by. in that case try some seafoam that might help there but if it smokes all the time then that most the time means a stuck or busted ring. do a compression test see what that says befor you start tearing into it.

those were both very good points, i forgot about sea foam, that stuff will definatley clean out your engine if something is stuck, and also the compression test will help out alot

White smoke or blue?If white may be a blown head gasket allowing coolant to seep into cylainder and burn.Might notice a continuous coolant loss if this is the case.Ehxaust will smell sweetish like coolant smell. If blue in color,it is probably oil smoke. As above post says, try the Seafoam trick and see if that cleans things up and slows down the oil burning before u do an expensive engine job.BJ
