I just bought a non-running 88 B2200. Its getting no spark. There is no spark coming from the coil to distributor. Old owner replaced the coil, wires, plug, dist cap. I think either the coil may be wired wrong but I cant find any wiring diagrams anywhere.
Also there is a resistor on the rad cradle wired to the coil...could this be a potential problem as well?
thanks

I have a diagram in the manual but u wont need it.All black/black with white stripe wires go to negative side of coil.Blue/blue with yellow stripe go to positive side of coil. The small capacitor on the side of the dist. is called an igniter and it supplies an extra bump to the voltage when truck is cranked. The small wire from it goes negative on the coil.THe small heat sink on the front firewall also goes negative I think. It will not cause starting problems but the igniter will. There are 4 grounds on the truck, battery, two on the engine and one on the coil.Besure they are tight and rust free.BJ

hmm, well i think you got that wrong or my truck is ass backwards.
the black & black/white wires are + according to the diagram i ended up finding today. Turns out the old owner had it wired like you said, and fried the new coil he put in. I picked up anoter new coil and put it in with the black wires to + and the blue yellow to - and it runs now. weird. thanks though man.

Reviewed manual last nite and ALL black and black/white striped wires go negative.MAybe ur truck is wired ass-backward cause I looked at my coil to be sure. Also, if there is a lot of elec.tape wrapped around wires under ur hood somebody may have done some shade tree wiring and used all sorts of colors of wire. Lol. Anyway, glad it is running. BJ

hmm well the mitchell on demand wiring diagram i printed off and the black-black/white to negative. so who knows. Either way it works now. Gonna put it on the hoist tonight and see what I got myself into for $160 CDN. Into it $200 now with the new coil and it runs.
