a guy at work told me about this. a lexus 400 series eng number 1UZ-FSE with 290 hp stock bolted up to a supra 5 spd with the help of an adapter plate from Delow automotive (in Australia). he just told me about this today so i thought i would see what you guys think. he said that you can supercharge it and put up to 35 pounds of boost giving it around 600 plus hp. in the early 90's it was a Lemans (spelling) race eng. for lexus. i plan on doing more research on this but this guy is crazy knowledgable on engines. where i am not. he said that these days you can get the eng. from a junkyard for around 500 bucks and that the engine has been around for about 17 yrs or so. so that tells me that it is a reliable eng. anyways let me know if any of you have heard of this or of this done to a mazdawg.

no haven't heard of this swap, but sounds supra bad a$$...haha! supra......i know the tuner guys w/ the supras are turboing them to in the neighborhood of 900 hp easily, & i'd say that is the same sorta engine as the supras if it will bolt to the supra tranny, so there ought to be a plethra of aftermarket hp goodies available for it as well.....

It's not the same sort of engine as the Supra. It's a 4.0L v8. The Supra is a 3.0L straight 6. From what I can find the bellhousing adapter plate isn't cheap. There's only a couple shops in Aus. that make them. Also, you either have to reprogram the factory ECU to make it think there's still an auto tranny, or use a standalone ECU. I forget which TV show it was, might have been Rides. But Rod Millen did this swap. They took the motor out of a brand new GS400 and put it in a brand new IS300 with the 6 speed from the 300.
