Cat modding

Thinking of removing the cat insides. Anything to watch out for? Gaskets etc. I need to purchase before clearing them out? I don't have emissions btw

Depends on how ur going to remove the Cat.They all have metal expansion gaskets or rings on them , so if u take them off u may need to replace those.If u dont have emissions tests why are u going to gut the Cats. Just replace with exhaust pipe.I do have tests here and I replaced the main cat with a MagnaFlow which really helped the trucks performance and it sounds much better as well. It will also pass emissions testing. BJ

Yeah I thought about removing them as well, atleast the 2nd one.

since you don't have emission test i'd say get rid of both of them..& put a hi-flow one under the truck w/ a nice free flowing muffler

i knocked everything out of my precat and put a magnaflow for the second, as soon as i get my exhaust re-routed i will remove the second one until it is time for inspection again. you will probably need a new gasket for the precat.

How do you go about gutting the pre cat? It looks like someone has taken my second one off already, but I would like to clean out that first one.

just pull it off, get something to use as a punch and got to town with a hammer. just make sure you get it all out. and i heard that you can take what is left of the internals to a sheetmetal yard and get some cash for it, it is supposed to be made out of titanium or something like that. easy way to gain a few hp.

my first mazda could barely push any exhaust out it was so clogged by the cat , I had an exhaust specialist put a thrush system in and it was awesome, it was mainly straight piped with a high flo ,muff out back, all of a sudden ........ it was way more fun! I dont have any emmissions control to worry about up here. I do care about the environment after all its not like im driving a full size v10.
