So I had to take my truck back to the guy who rebuilt my engine. He had to retighten my valve cover because oil was leaking. To do this, they removed the air cleaner assembly. As they did this, I suspect they accidentally severed a vacuum line? They put it back on, and I started the engine. It was running a normal idle of 800rpm. But he even too, pointed out a, "shhh-ing" noise by the carb. Like air... I did'nt think anything of it. Till I got home and my engine would'nt run any lower than 1200 rpm. So I suspect I need to reattach a vacuum line somewhere. But I look at the hoses and wires, and I'm completely lost when I look at it and try to find the source.

So how many hoses go where to the carb? The noise is on the passenger side of the carb. Right under the cleaner assembly, and above the EGR I feel air swooshing around. I just cant find a hose laying around...

I'd love to help, but I'm as lost as you when it comes to all those vacuum lines.

My truck failed it's emission test and when they did the diagnostic they couldn't find a problem and finally after they "passed" it with a wink and a nudge I took it for an oil change and my mechanic was like "uh,you know your EGR hose is disconnected?"

There is a vacuum fitting off the intake about 1/2 way down the valve cover on the passenger side.It connects to the carb heat sensor in the air cleaner. It is very easy to overlook and it will come off when u pull the air cleaner off.U can see it if u shine a lite down the passenger side of the valve cover from the front. Try that one first.BJ

Well thanks for the help! But I pulled the air cleaner up today to see if anything was disconnected. Nothin'... So I figured I would tune the idle screw, as well the distributor. Turned it a little clockwise, turned the idle screw, and now its a purring 800 rpm.

I face a different problem now! 3 days ago on the way home from work, as I was driving, (can't recall what it was that I did during the incident) but then all of the sudden, my throttle goes out from my foot! I tapped on it again to see if it would go back down, but then just kept over-revving and got up to 4K before I turned the ignition off and nearly hit a pedestrian and crash into a damn garage! Off of a busy street! It was scary. But I handled myself well.

As I figured, the constantly open throttle flooded my engine. My father came to aid me and we fiddled with the throttle cable. We tried the ignition again and it started up fine. But then this is when it started idling at 1200rpm.

Tonight, I was driving, and my problem is the fact that When I put my throttle to the floor, it will get to about 2k and then started dying! Once it got to about 2.5 2.7k it would start run fine again. I told my dad about it.

He believes it could be my float, choke, or injectors. I don't know squat when it comes to carbs. I can't figure it out and its frustrating! Anyone experience my dilemma?

On the rear of the carb is a "wheel" looking thing to which ur accelerator cable is attached. It is spring loaded so that when u release the pressure on the accel it closes the butterfly in ur carb and the engine slows down.2 things to check: be sure the accel cable is not frayed or binding, and be sure that spring is not broken or has come unattached.Beyond that, not sure what the issue is.Keep us posted and I would not drive the truck until u found and fixed the problem.Sounds dangerous.
