I was wondering if anyone has had there head rebuilt and how much it costed them? I am wanting to get mine worked on I get a tapping everynow and then and just want to get it taken care of. O its a 89 B2200..

just depends on what you want done, if it is just a general rebuild, probably about $300-$400, but if you want to spice it up a some, add a cam, valves & such, then port & polish job or have it extrudehoned & you can go well over a grand, but you'll notice a definate power increase....definately find a reputable machine or head shop to do the work, ask around your town, then once you narrow down the choices, talk to each shop & ask them if they have ever rebuilt a mazda head & if they offer any kind of warranty & any other pertinate questions you want answered.

i had mine rebuilt at a locl machine shop and it cost me about $200 but i brought them the head, if you take it to a garage and have them remove it, rebuild it and re install it you will def be looking at $400-$500 easy, if its tapping its most likely just your lifters, they are about $10 each at auto zone and pretty easy to install them, also check that your fuel pump on the head isnt worn down, believe it or not i had a tapping noise, thought it was the lifters, replaced them, still had it and the fuel pump was actually worn down and for some reason causing the tapping sound, replaced it and the noise was gone

good luck

no prob!

oh, and like drpdmazda said, the ticking is prob just a lifter, or could be the fuel pump.....try running some seafoam thru the engine to free the stuck lifter, if it still ticks, then you may have to replace it.....if it did turn out to be the fuel pump, it is an easy swap, undo two or three hoses, two bolts pull the old one off, put the new one back on.....

It seems to start the noise after I drive it around town for more than 15 minutes and then a few days later its gone! But it gets to a point that it seems all the lifters are yellin!! They are hydralic lifters on the 89 right? any diffrent install on these?

sorry about not getting back to you on that, i was having trouble posting replys. you are correct sir, the 89 has the hyd. lifters, but you lost me on the install part of the q.....but i'll try, the only difference in the solid lifters & hyd. ones is the lifters, the rocker arm assembly, and maybe the windage tray....
