Okay heres the deal...I own a 86 B2000 thtat went into the shop for a head gasket problem. That was fixed, I drove it to work the next morning and it stalled in the middle of the road and couldn't restart it. I returned the truck that following evening to the shop and come to find out the bottom end is gone. My question should I fix the bottom end issue that would cot $2000 or spend my money on a new motor? If I do decide to buy a new motor does anyone know wher i could find one besides ebay?

Thanks

rebuild it yourself... Much cheaper and you will learn something. If you dont think you could do it look into a motor swap and put something with a little more power into it. If thats not your think either check your local craigslist for what you might need. You might be able to pick up another truck for 500 to 1000 and have a parts truck for what ever.

try Autozone or Advance autoparts. They sell completely rebuilt import long blocks for around that price, with warranty. the ones around here do so anyway.

Are you sure the "bottom end" went out? If it did, you'd definately hear it. It wouldn't just be a regular sound trying to start it back up after that.

The bottom end on these trucks lasts a long time.
Did you hear some bad rod bearings knocking before it stopped?

Check first to see why it stopped. Missing spark? fuel? Might save you some money.

i'm goin to try to get a second opinion on what is really wrong with it. Thats what the mechanic told me. As for as i know the only problem I have notice is that its leaking oil from the front pass. side of the engine...and it won't crank over either cuz it s overheatin too!!!!!

Sounds like the shop owes you a new motor!

Seriously, they tear it down to swap a head gasket and it dies the next day? And they want ANOTHER $2000, to fix what they didn't fix right the first time? Try talking to the shop again.

If you do get stuck with the bill, check car-part.com for used engines. Should be able to get back on the road for $500. If it was me (and it was me a while back), I'd get a Chevy V6 or a Mazda V6. The Chevy 4.3s are very cheap, stout engines.
