are headers for our trucks useless or do they improve sound, performance, anything other than looks? thanks -bf

i would assume they must give some performance gains, as there is quite a bit more air flow........

they sure do look alot nicer than the hunk of rusty cast

Yes, it does help. I woudn't mess with it if you don't have a weber or holley 5200 though. The stock exaust on our trucks are horrible. I ran a straight pipe and a highflow cat for a while. Huge difference, got tired of the sound though.

I have a header and dont have a weber yet... lol thats cause I got it for $40 brand new still in the box.

I just put mine on yesterday and noticed a big improvement in throttle response. Only thing is that my bracket for my e-brake was in the way of the header flange and im going to have to relocate it or fab a new one.

they do improve the overall performance of the engine, but you aren't going to see anything drastic.....it would be very nice if someone who has a stock engine would do a dyno run after installing a weber, and then after installing the header so there would be some actual #'s to go buy......

I may be able to do that. My truck is stock at the moment and I have the header to go on and will be getting a weber soon. If anyone wants to help out and donate I will see about setting up some dyno time once I get the truck running again. I might be able to get a discount on the dyno out here since I'm a member of the local DSM club. Not sure if they will honor it since I won't be running a DSM.

I also plan on putting on a 2.5" exhuast with a high flow cat. I will do a dyno run before any mods and a run after each mod and do them all in one step if some people want to help out with the cost. Heres the dyno in my area.
