First, I would highly recommend getting some carb cleaner. I assume you have'nt tried that yet. What in the world do you mean your choke "silly up?" If your choke is manual, then set it before you crank it over. Push the pedal in and let it return, crank the engine. It should set your choke and run at 1500rpm. Once it warms up, tap the pedal and it should idle around 900-1k. Let it warm up for atleast 5 min. You should'nt let it run cold and drive it until you warm it up. Our trucks are oldies and it will hurt them.
But it also be more then that too. So try it out and post up if it still persists. Explain what you mean by "whine." As in when you shift into it, or when its in 4th? Popping out? As in when you try and disengage it to neutral without using your clutch? I'm having the same problem. I'm not sure what it could be, but I bet these are to account for the fact of:
1. Synchros
2. I think my friend also said something about the copper rings?
3. Trans fluid is low or cold.
Well, I gave my .02 cents. So lemme know how it goes! OHHHH, and btw, in my Chiltons manual it says:
Rough idle or engine runs rough:
1. Dirt or moisture in fuel; Replace fuel filter
2. Clogged air filter; Replace air filter
3. Faulty fuel punp; Check fuel pump output
Try those too!
