I was just wodering how many of you out there have rebuilt there 2200's... I'm not looking for performance just a nice pretty in-expensive rebuild. I'm at about 300,000 on the original motor and she smokes a bit but still seems to run fine, I just an ready to rebuild because I don't really trust it with all of the miles on it. Any information on where to get a rebuild kit or any other specifics would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance,

Ian

If you're going to spend the money on a rebuild I would look into uping the performance a little. I have rebuilt 3 2200s in the past and my current truck has been rebuilt. You can get a rebuild kit from Autozone or just buy what you will need for the rebuild.

On my last b2200 I did most of the wrenching myself. I had a head shop rebuild the head and port and polish it a little. Basically just to gasket match the runners. I did the intake manifold myself with a die grinder and dremel. It cost me about $800 total with all the parts and machine work. I didn't have anything done to the block other than honing it. The blocks seem to hold up pretty good. The head was about 40% of the cost since I had it ported and polished. I also replaced the pistons, but reused the rods. Replaced the usual head bolts, all gaskets, timing componets etc...

I was an engineering student at the time so I took the flywheel and crank pulley with me to my machine shop class. We lightened the flywheel a little and I also machined a custom lightened underdrive crank pulley. It definatly helped with performance gains... Would I do it all again? Nope... I'm going for a motor swap for my current truck. All that money into a rebuild would go great towards a nice swap.

My plans are a Mitsubishi 4G64 wide flange block and crank with forged rods and pistons. Mitsubishi 4G63 1st gen turbo head, will remain stock for a while. B2600i tranny bellhousing mounted to a RX-7 TII tranny. If I happen to find a TII with a complete rearend I may swap to independent rear suspesion.

So far I have the head. lol thats it. It came off my old GSX. Its all thats left after the motor blew on the dyno.

My father and I just finished the rebuild on my '91 b2200. I had purchased it with a blown head and knew it'd need some work...but in any case I spent about the $1000 all told. but that included some new exhaust pipe too, radiator cleaning, water pump, misc fluids...and all that.

Picked up an engine rebuild kit (gaskets, piston, etc..) for about $260 at the local Bumper to Bumper.

Other major expense was a new head. Mine was cracked so had to get a replacement. That was about $395 + Core. The head was pretty good, came complete with everything.

Pretty much went bone stock all the way around. So far I'm happy with the results. Now that the silly thing is mobile again I can focus on some other areas to be improved.
