I just picked up a used rear end and it looks like theres a small leak on the right side. I figured since my last rear end had axle seals go out I'm gonna be safe and replace these and check everything out.

If anyone has like an exploded view of a b2200 rear end can you please post it, I haven't done any rear end work and I don't want to break anything. Also, is there anything else I should check out to make sure I don't have to park the mazda any longer?

Thanks,
Jake

hope you have access to a pretty large press. its the only way to install the new bearing and seal.

once you pull the axle its self explanitory. remove and install. i wouldnt consider it rearend work for sure. it requires removing 4 bolts, thats it.

make sure you get the proper wrench to remove the brake lines, you dont want to end up stripping them by using a vice grip or something, just take your time, make sure that you keep the spacers seperate on each side, you will see what i am talking about when you take the axles out, there are thin metal spacers on each side, keep them seperate so you dont mix them up, other than that its a pretty straight forward remove and re install, also make sure you drain the fluid in the rear before you pull the axles or you may have a mess on your hands, and most importantly dont forget to bleed the brakes when you are done. might as well replace the wheel cylinders while you have the axles out as well, they are about $15 each side at your auto store

drpdmazda - your post brings up an interesting question... The thin metal spacers (shims) on each side are used to set the preload on the axel bearing after it is installed. The shims come in different thicknesses to get the correct end play. Once the bearing & seal are replaced, will the new bearing require the same shims to get the correct preload?

Alright, that doesn't sound too hard. I should have her up and running in about a week depending on my work schedual.

BTW, I just picked up some pathy's tonight. $125 with great tires, no real curb rash either. Great deal

No the preload will need to be reset as there are manufacturing tolerances in the new bearings that could be a few thou off of the old.....
