i am baffled by this one. although i am ASE certified i do not know the mazda well enough yet to figure this one out.

this is what is going on. temp knob to full cold, push a/c button, turn fan switch to the 1 position and compressor clutch engages, a/c works great. (blower motor does not work due to a bad resistor on that postion, but not the problem i want to deal with right now). when the switch is in the 1 position the light on the a/c button lights up signalling all is good. now here is the problem, turn the fan switch to ANY other position and the light on the a/c button goes out and the compressor clutch disengages. and i get no A/C.

my guess is the fan switch is bad, but the blower works in all but the 1 position. so i guess my question is, if the circuit goes, fuse, relay, fan switch, a/c on button, pressure switch, clutch, and the fan switch is working WHAT THE HELL IS THE PROBLEM????

any input would be helpful right now as i have checked all that i can think, even if its just "hey check the grounds, or check for power at the switch, etc. im at a complete loss so nothing will make the situation any worse.

thanks in advance. by the way, I HATE WIRING.

Yeah I hate wiring too. My dash lights don't come on when I turn on my lights right away they warm up and gradually come on. almost like they are wired into my temp sensor! Truck gets warmer dash lights get brighter.

That's a classic symptom of a failed A/C blower resistor.
If you have a Hayne's manual, the electrical schematic will show it.

It's on top of the blower housing which can only be accesed by removing the glove box and flexible duct out of the way.
Pull the connector out and remove the resistor pack mounted on two screws.
If you want to be cheap, just jumper all the speed setting terminals to get a single speed on fastest only.
If you want to put it back to factory setting, replace the resistor.

UPDATE: blown position 1 blower resistor. fixed that because i knew it was bad anyways, and WA LA. after looking at the electrical diagram i see how the system operates now, nothing like any car i have troubleshot before. so the brushes in the motor are probably going bad???

all i did was connect position 1 to position 2 to close the circuit, will this cause a problem???

Not bad at all.
You will only lose the slowest fan speed.
Who needs the slowest fan speed anyway.

I don't have a/c. I just installed a sunroof!

i was a few steps away from the EDC when we had a 75° day and i was hot already, so i figured, if everything was there and working why not use it. if something breaks, EDC it is.
