So me and my dad are pretty much ready to yank the motor out of my truck to install the new tranny and clutch are there any suprises I should look out for.

My dad use to race cars and pull motors so were pretty much set on what to unbolt take off and such, but is there any precautions I should know about?

And as far as putting a new clutch in could I get a guideline on how to do so....

Any feedback is appreciated guys thanks.

Why pull the motor to replace the tranny? Just drop the tranny out thru the bottom. Much easier than pulling the entire motor.

I disagree man, on my 83 it doesnt take shit to yank the motor and it was a bitch to pull the tranny.

Plus there are some misc items on the motor that need to be touched up that I can do much better with the motor off.

since your getting a new clutch i would get your flywheel resurfaced.

I wasn't sure how that goes on an 83. So if its easy that way, I say go for it. lol.

I've been told its easier to pull the motor to replace the tranny... Lol.

If your engine is anything like mine, then no! I don't remember anything surprising about it... If your dad knows what he is doing, you will have a "walk in the park".

If you buy a clutch kit, it will be very easy to replace. The kit should come with an alignment tool! All of it should be self explanitory my man!

ya i bought the whole kit and have the tool, thats kinda what i figured my dads hopeing we get enough lift out of the puller, but like i said air ride comes in handy

no surprises if its like mine. i had to unbolt the six motor mount bolts and the crossmember bolts and undo the wiring and i had it out in an hour by myself.

grab a new pilot baring as well most the time they don't come the kit. It really needs to be replaced with a new clutch. If the old one is stuck in there really good you can rent a tool from autozone for pretty cheap

I did mine in the drive way on jack stands. I just on bolted the exhuast, drive line, e brake, tranny, tranny crossmember, slid it out, did the clutch (flywheel was fine) replaced the pilot, installed the pressure plate and clutch and reinstalled everyhing with no probs. Took about 3 hours.
