Ok guys...I just bypassed my manual fuel pump and added an electrical pump.

Truck starts up and runs...just the noise level of the pump is driving me crazy.

Any ideas on how to keep the noise level down?

MODS on engine:

32/36 Weber DGEV
Headers
Mild Cam
MSD 6al
Blaster Coil
8.5 mm MSD wires
New head, lifters, and springs
2.25 exhaust piping with 40 series flowmaster muffler

Reason for changing from manual fuel to electrical fuel pump.

Problem: After head job, truck has trouble idling when cold. When truck warms up, engine able to stay idle. (Runs fine under load)

I thought maybe the manual fuel pump didn't have enough PSI for the weber.

Troubleshoot:

Check Timing.
Changed spark plugs
Changed wires
Adjusted carb (Used weber jetting kit )
Tried to disable choke
Check for vacuum leaks
Replace all carb gaskets
Changed from manual fuel to electrical fuel pump. (Today) 3/18/2007
Replaced fuel filter. (Moved filter behind fuel pump, near the gas tank)

where did you mount the new elect. pump?
is this the pump that is making the noise?
did you remove the old mech pump?

the elect. pump should be mounted level with the tank, not above it, if it is mounted higher than the tank, then it must over come gravity to feed itself causing it to work harder. generally you should mount the pump within 3 feet of the supply, level with the tank, and a filter before the pump is a good idea, and one after it inbetween it and the carb. also the one inbetween the tank & pump should be large enough not to restrict the flow of fuel to the pump. mounting it in an unoptimal spot, and restricting the flow of fuel to the elect. pump would make the pump work harder, and probably make it noiser too...

I mounted the pump on the frame leveled at the rear, near the gas tank. The filter is before the pump and there is nothing between the pump and the carb.

Note: I used a new stock filter. The old mechanical pump is still in but not in use. (capped)

locations sounds good, did you run all new lines? the factory lines & even that factory sized filter could be restricting the pump, making it harder to operate, thus causing the extra noise. what brand & pn pump did you get?
also if you used a reducer on the pump intake & out, that could be causing the extra level of noise.

inline fuel pumps are just noisy bastards...dynomatt....

OK....my bad.....I thought about what you said, that the pump was working hard to push the fuel forward. Well I just needed to run the motor long enough. I started motor today and ran it for a little while. The noise level finally went away. Hopefully it'll stay that way......
I guess the pressure needed to build because the lines were empty. Making the pump work harder.

Thanks for helping out....I owe you one!
