Hey i am tearing down my engine ( 86 fe block) n noticed there a bolt on front of the crankshaft, does this bolt need come off b4 i pull the crankshaft/timing belt sprocket off to take off the oil pump? i tired to turn it with a 13/16 wrench n it wont break loose so i wonder if it suppose to come off?? the book doesnt say anything about that bolt. any help would be great! thanks

are the plugs in the motor still? if so and you have a hard time turning this bolt you may have a problem.

No plugs in the motor, the engine is almost stripped down, just piston, crankshaft and oil pump is only thing on the engine right now. I tired to pull the sprocket off with a pulley n it not moving outwards, it on there good n tight.

you must remove the bolt on the front of the crankshaft to remove the oil pump. The timng gear will slide off allowing you access to the oil pump and front crank seal once the bolt is removed-

To remove the bolt on a motor that is out of the truck and stripped down- you are going to need to hold the crankshaft still to break the bolt loose. A good way to do this is to pull off the oil pan( if not already off) and stick a screw driver into one of the balance boles on the crankshaft and let it rest against the bottom of the block- this should stop the crank with enough force so that you can break the big bolt loose!

Good luck

there is a tool that looks like a spanner wrench for shocks, what you use to hold the flywheel, it is a two person job, on holds that end, while the other breaks that bolt loose on the front of the engine. here is a thread with some pics of b22lvn's engine rebuild in progress, i'm pretty sure you will have to take the crank pulley off to remove the oil pump.....

or you could do what madlowmazda said....
