This thing has been picking away at me for to long. Fix one thing, another breaks. Sooo... I'm gonna tear that little biaa of a motor out of it's home and rebuild it. A good list of things have been replaced on the motor, but now the rings are obviously shot. Just going to hone the cylinder bores they looked good when the new head gasket went in. Also probably going to reuse the stock pistons. Definatly new seals all around, rings, and bearings. Going to trailer it to the shop in the next week or two and then get to work. Setting a six month time frame to do this. The stock exhaust is just holding together underneath, so I would like to get a header. But that means a Webber right? That's how this project can easily spiral out of financial control for me! Any thoughts or comments? I'm listining. Thanks!

you ought to be able to pick up a fel-pro rebuild kit off e-bay or another source for under $300. if your gonna just re-ring it, i'd get the premium ones, ae-clevite makes some pretty good ones, as well as new bearings.
while it's down, i'd replace a few things in the head, new seals, and guides, and it wouldn't hurt for a new set of valve springs especially if the engine has a lot of miles on it. deffinately need to do a valve job, check the valves for signs of excessive wear, and replace them too if necessary. you could do a little porting & polishing while its off, i wouldn't spend a whole lot of time on it though as there is only so much you can do.....

you don't necessairly have to get a weber when putting a header on, it just aleviates a lot of the headache of trying to figure out what vaccum lines to cap, and what not....

if you do go with a weber, has about the best prices, and they are good guys to deal with.

on the header, is a good place to get it, you might be able to find it cheaper elsewhere though, so look around.

NYTRDR24 thanks for the names and links! The valve faces looked great back in summer but then again as I price things I may decide to replace anyway. It's got about 140,000 miles so springs are on the price list. This will be spread over probably 6 months so I can make it nice as possible. Again thanks for the help!

Maybe go with part # MA2184MY01 at autozone. Kit includes rod bearings, main bearings, premium piston ring set, full gasket set. Advice welcome guys!
