Don't know it it has been posted before but one way to help with lifter tick is to user 10w40 with lucas oil stabilizer you just substitute the stabilizer for one quart of oil. The stabilizer helps thicken the oil.

Another way to help eliminate the tick, is to run the OE Mazda oil filter.
Oh and adjust the valves regurarily.

I tried Diesel today full oil swap took plugs out so wouldnt start ran it threw motor without I repeat WITHOUT starting it let it sit for 24 hrs to 48 depending how you want it to work and drained and replace with Seafoam one 4th and rest 10 40 oil never replace oil with lesser oil grade and ran it for 500 miles and then replace with one more change and it was done for no more tick worked a fucking wonder I am shocked this worked folk and a old ass dude like 65 told me about it but instead of sea foam HE SAID USE AUTOMATIC one quART tranny fluid in the oil cause it was the best lube/ degreaser avsliable in his time... GOOD LUCK try it... I swear worked wonders..... Ima do it on the show....

why would the mazda factory oil filter make a difference?

I get some mad lifter tick first thing in the morning. My wife can hear it inside the house. lol shes like what is that noise, it doesnt sound good...

It only does it for about 60 seconds or so then just all of a sudden stops. I might pull the lifters out and clean then real good.

The Mazda filter and I believe the Wix filter both hace a small butterfly valve that prevents the oil from totally draining back into the pan. Therefore when u cold start the truck there is more oil in the top end quicker therefore less lifter noise.Clever those Mazda engineers-what?Lol.BJ

I use the Mobile one filter and it has a check valve and a bypass valve. The bypass valve opens on cold starts to let the oil run thru so it doesn't dry start.

YA the auto tranny fluid was told to me years ago by a mechanics teacher in high school - it is a great detergent to add in before an oil change.

you can run ATF thru your carb too, just so long as you don't use too much to flood it. it smokes like a MOFO. i've been trying to think of a way to hook up a reservoir full of atf and a vacuum line to a switch and have a smokescreen! suppose i could use an airvalve like for suspension to open the vacuum to the intake and suck up the tranny fluid... hmm

if your lifters tick really bad and won't stop shut the truck off wait a sec and start it again it works I just don't think the lifters in these trucks stay pumped up very well
