here is the deal, a couple weeks ago my thermostat got stuck closed and caused some problems for me. i had to replace the thermostat and a couple lines. since then it has been leaking out of the water pump gasket. i am going today to get a new pump and gasket and get that changed but i am not sure that is my entire problem, although it could be.

here it what it started doing this morning...

i went out to it and went to pull the radiator cap off to see how much coolant it had (now i didn't drive it at all yesterday and i did this just now). as soon as i pull the pressure relief tab on the cap it started pouring out of the everflow. then i went to pull the cap off and it sprayed everywhere. keep in mind it hasn't been driven for 2 days. so i cranked it up and looked for leaks. it still just leaks from the water pump gasket, but i went to pull the cap off again to see if it was flowing and as soon as i pull the pressure relief tab again it starts pouring out of the overflow again, only this time it is not stopping until i close the tab.

i have an idea of what it could be but i don't want to say until i get some feedback from what you guys may think it is. i don't think it is going to be good at all though.

let me know what you guys think please. thanks.

well thats a sign of over heating and to much coolant check that your clutch fan works by spining it and it should barley freespin replace and yea when your water pump leaks its time for a new one

my mustang did the exact same thing about a month ago and it was because i had the thermostat in backwards, i flipped it around it and its been fine since.

it is funny that you say that because as soon as i pulled it out and set it down i forgot how to put the new one in. haha. but i looked at the chiltons manual and put it in the way they said to put it in. i will go ahead and flip it and try that.

but at the same time i have heard of people running without a thermostat (which i do not suggest) and there weren't any problems like this. why would it come out of the pressure relief if the thermostat is in backwards? especially when it is cold. but i will give that a shot.

i am thinking i have either a blown head gasket or a warped or cracked head, simply because it did it as soon as i cranked it up. so i am thinking that there is a vacuum internally caused by the pistons and that is pushing the water out. but there is no water seeping out anywhere around the head gasket. sooo....

ive ran a few older cars with no thermostat with no problems but i don't know if on a newer vehicle with all the sensors and stuff, if it would make your check engine light come on. oh and it will take your heater like 3 days to get warm.

well, i flipped it around and it isn't doing it now but i don't know if it is circulating. i haven't taken it out and driven it yet, that is the next step. first i need to change the water pump and the thermostat gasket.

the longer side of the thermostat goes into the engine side. as for the blown headgasket. check your oil for a coffee type creamy look. also oil in your antifreeze. even if there is none it could still be blown. you can pull oil cap off and shine a flashlight down in the valve cover and you will be able to tell by seeing chunky creamy oil and water deposits in there. hope this helps

yea my dads mazda was doing that a few weeks ago...my mom ran it hot and blew the head gasket...pistons were forcing the antifreeze back into the radiator

Iwould suggest that u pay a bit more and get a Maz replacement thermostat. They are 2 stage with stage 1 opening at 160 degrees and stage 2 opening at 180 degrees. When u put it in,deep side facing block and the tiny air bleed hole at 12 o'clock.BJ
