would there be any problem with soaking pistons in simple green or some other chemical degreasers? my piston tops are pretty caked with carbon and that seems like a good way to clean them? any other suggestions?
thanks!

Don't see why not but don't leave it in there to long some of those cleaners can eat into the metal.

yea just use a general parts degreaser...after i soak em.i always used the round end of a hacksaw blade to scrape that carbon off ass not to scratch the piston.. mace shure to scrape out the ring grooves also.

Get some MCCC from your dodge dealer. It will take that carbon off of your pistons like butter.

MCCC is Mopar Combustion Chamber Cleaner. It works great and is made for what you are trying to do. They actually use it by pouring some in thru the sparkplug holes and letting it sit over night. Ive used it to clean pistions and heads to get the carbon off.

yeah man let me know how it works. i have my head off right now and i have the same problem, i was also wondering how to clean it off. my pistons are still installed but i don't think that will be an issue.

Umm... could'nt you just spray some carb cleaner down it while its running?

id soak em in gasoline

yeah soak them in gas, carb cleaner, simple green, etc. mine have soaked for about 2 hours, then i scrubbed them and cleaned the ring lands and soaked them another hour and a half or 2 hours. we have some stuff called 'greased lightning' in a purple spray bottle. sprayed the pistons while they were still in the block and continued cleaning the outside of the block and the next day half the carbon came off - it looked like peeling paint and just flaked off. stuff works amazing but i don't know where it came from... otherwise i'd have bought it again.
