soooo, the other day I go to start my truck and the thing won't hold a cold idle. I finally get it to run after about 5 attempts of starting it and I'm holding it at 2000rpm to keep it running, cuz as soon as I let off the gas it'll die.

Get it on the road, and horrible hesitation from a take off,and under 2000rpm. Once it warms up,it seems to be ok,and holds an idle, albeit a little erratic, surging from 800-1000rpm.

I took my truck to my mechanic and he said it sounded like the EGR valve, and tested it and came to the conclusion that my EGR is stuck open. I've been driving with the vacuum line removed and capped off and the truck runs a little better than when the line is connected.

I picked up a used EGR on the weekend and installed it and my situation has not gotten any better, still the same problem.

I have a washable/reusable Accel air filter which I have cleaned. I also cleaned out the PCV filter, checked my plugs and wires and everything is top notch.

I'm thinking I either have EGR or carb issues. Anyone have a clue on this?

the egr sys could be stopped up, or the pre-cat converter...easy way to check would be pull the three rubber hoses that connect to the air cleaner, and look in the pipes for carbon build up.....was there any build up when you pulled the egr valve off the intake mani? if these are clean, then the timing could have slipped a tooth.....

There was carbon build up on the inside of my EGR,but the manifold looked fairly clean.

Where's the pre-cat?? My truck has the stock exhaust manifold, but I've got a custom exhaust from the manifold back,so the only cat I know of is my Magnaflow main cat.

I will check the hoses though. A friend of my dad has a son who has a couple Mazdas and said he had the same problem I'm having. He said inside the air cleaner,I guess where those 3 hoses are, there were like 3 sensors or something that he said got all carboned up an dhe took them out and cleaned them and that solved the problem...for a little while...then it went back to the same thing.

NYT,I just pulled the 3 hoses off and my fingers are black as night. I want to pull that whole assembly off,but I've gotta go to work in an hour,so maybe later this week.

Tweaker,I'll have to find my test light, wherever the hell it is. What do I do after I test that fuse?

Alrighty,I'll have to check it tomorrow. I'm leaving for work in a few minutes and have to take my truck for an alignment first thing tomorrow morning.
