lol, 150,000 miles, it only slips from a stop and if hes turning a corner, which means to me low fluid in either tranny or tc or clogged screen, no burnt smell and havent seen the truck to know what color the fluid is, either way i need to know what kind of fluid it is to add some if levels are low, also adding same fluid but new wont hurt anything, flushing old and putting new might break something free and hurt something.... just to clear that up.. and i think the correct term is preventitive maintenance, lol i just need to know what fluid is it and thanks for your input, i need to know by 430 pacific time cuz thats when we get off work... thanks everyone

As Tweaker says ,check for problems first.Get truck up to operating temp on level ground and check fluid level via dipstick.Fluid should be dark red and have only an oily smell. If it is pink, brown or some other weird color and smells burnt,it needs changing.Pull the pan, clean the pan,Change the filter, install a new gasket and refill the tranny with any good ATF including a good sythetic if u can get it.I am running synthetic ATF in mine and it works great.Dextron is alsofine.Change the tranny fluid about every 8-10 oil changes and it will last a long time.Remember this is the same AT used in the early RX's and it is pretty sturdy.BJ

hmmm... I talked to Schucks yesterday about changing out my tranny's fluid... You guys must be talking abotu an AT, not MT. Because I dunno where a screen or a cooler line would be for the MT?

Anyways, the guy said to use the same oil you use in the rear axle. Its like 80w something... But it is clear and he said if its black change it.

...must be different between AT and MT?

u r first post referenced an AT so I was talking about an automatic, not a manual tranny. There are no screens or filters in a manual tranny.Just drain it and refeill with a 90 wt gear oil and u should be fine.BJ

I bought 80w-90 for my tranny and rear... I changed them today... took 4 quarts.

A little under $20. It was one hell of a $20 investment! Both the tranny and rear end came out black!!!!

I was pretty mad... Although, the power, is pretty nice, I have a bit more power it seems. The tranny shifts pretty smooth now!

Just going to have to buy a new clutch kit and get the new slave and master cylinders for the clutch and then we'll see if I need a new tranny!
