i took my valve cover off and turned the motor over with a ratchet and instead of the compression making the engine harder to turn you can feel it start to get tight and then it sounds like air coming up the valve stems is this bad valve guides or what? also it seems to be wet around my #1 spark plug any ideas what this would be? its an 84 b2000 with a 2.0

All four cylinders are not on the compression stroke at the same time, only one is.Is air coming up all 4 (or valve stems at the same time?If so,one or more of your valves are not seating properly.I would have a compression check run by a pro and see what the truck is doing compression wise. You may just need to replace ur valve seals. If #1 plug is wet,ur getting blow by from the oil ring.May be time for an overhaul.BJ

you can hear it blowing one cylinder at a time as you turn it through the stroke. i have a new set of valve seals with my rebuild kit and i have the bottom end already built, i was going to use this head on my new motor but after i saw the wet spark plug i didn't know if it was a head prob. or engine problem. thanks for your help.

i have to put new valve seals on mine too. it doesn't look fun at all. you might want to take the head to a head shop (not a whore house) haha, and get it looked over and maybe a port and polish and a 3 angle valve job before you put it all back together. just my .02. good luck bro.
