fuel float

can i just change out the float or will i have to buy a whole new sending unit. my gas gauge does not work

The Maz gas tank sending unit is pretty primitive.It works on contact between a slider and the main tube uptake pipe.After awhile it gets dirty,worn and doesnt work.Sometimes u can take it out and clean it and put it back in and it will work a while longer.Best bet if u r going to keep the truck is just go to Autozone or Pep Boys and get a new one.BJ

What you could do is clean it up and ohm it out to see if it works properly. Just get your multimeter on there set her to ohm's and lift the lever up to see if there's any resistance from top to bottom.
