I have a question that may sound a little stupid. I have a(n) 86 Mazda B2K, I was doing a tune up today (plugs, wires, cap, and button) and the parts that I had bought for a B2K didn't fit. I went back to the parts store and checked a 626.....they fit exact. Ok, I know that my B don't have the original motor in it, but, I had another parts B and the motors were the same. My actual question is, what are the chances of mine having a 626 engine? Are there any specific numbers on the block that could be cross refrenced? The main reason I'm wondering is because I'm planning to rebuild the motor this fall/winter and if the cap and rotor are diffrent I figure that there are internals that may be diffrent. If anyone can help I would greatly appreciate it. Thanx in advance guys

B2000's B2200's,2 and 2.2 liter early 626's up to 1991 or so,share a lot of the saame short block parts, which is why the late 80s MX=6 GT with turbo makes a good swap.Problem is the 626 after 1984 being front wheel drive has a different disty location and some electrical differences secondary to it being FI and all but the far Western/Northern states and Canadian B series were carbed. That being said if u have had an engine swap in the past, get the block number and ask a local Maz dealer or parts store to look it up and see what it started life as.BJ

The reason I was asking was that the cap, and button for the B didn't fit but the 86 626 did

Yeah as stated above disty on 626 and 2200 dont share any parts so sounds like someone did the old switcheroo.BJ
