I am having a problem with the wiring for this electric fan. The original setup I stole it off my parts truck had the positive lead running out of the fan, into a thermostat (or atleast thats what I assume it was) back out of the thermostat and into a switch in the cab where the wire then ran all the way back to the battery where it ran into a fuse then to the battery. The ground was hooked up directly to the battery.

I need to now hook this up in my truck. I am hoping to just run it into the thermostat then to a fuse block and the battery. Will this setup work?

Also, I tried testing the thermostat switch cause I'm not sure if it ever worked and I hooked up the fan to the thermo then to the battery. I then dipped the thermostat in hot water from my kettle and it didn't turn on. Is there a proper way to test this switch before wiring it all up?

Heres a pic of the thing the fan was connected to. I think its the thermostat switch, am I right?

And yes I did erase the original post and refined it to this one which is more direct lol.

When u tested the thermo switch, did u ground the fan?Shesa no ground, shesa no work. That piece u have there looks like the thermocouple that screws into the bottom of the radiator and activates your temp guage,so if it is anadditional part,I assume it is the thermo from the fan.Where u gonna hook it up as it needs to be in the water jacket somewhere.I have a Flexalite fan and mine is wired with a probe that does into the radiator and then that wire goes to a black box that I can use to adjust sensivity. The hot wire goes from switch to fan fused, and the ground goes from battery ground to truck ground also fused.I still have a wiring diagram for my fan I would be glad to send u if u think it would help.U will just have to adapt given our 2 fans arent the same.???BJ

Yes the fan was grounded when I tested the switch. My rad has a little screw in sensor at the bottom tank of the rad. It is in the same place as my stock rad sensor. This rad had the 'switch' installed in the upper reservoir of the rad where there is a threaded hole. Well from what you just explained with the wiring of yours I had the same set up in my mind for mine however the thermo switch wasn't switching. What temp. would it generally switch at? Maybe my water wasn't hot enough?

good question ZAc and I dont know the answer.Mine is adjustable so u can turn the temp up and down.If ur thermo is a 160/180 with 180 being the operating temp of your truck,I would GUESS that the fan thermo switch should come on at say 5 degrees up from normal or 185 or so.That is just a guess.bj

Any other ideas or shall I just try it?

BTW, thanks bj for your help.
