ok im trying to start the 302 in my truck. the problem is there isnt any fire to the plugs, well i know its the coil, due to i dont know how to hook it up. i know 12volts goes to the +side. but i dont know were to go with the neg "-" side. my factory ford distributor doesnt have any wires coming out of it. none, no plugs no nothing. all thats inside the cap is a rotor, no electronics what so ever. im also tring to use my stock mazda coil for they looked the same. (mazda vs. ford)

i want to hear this thing run and i cant!!!!!!

I know there are folks here with 302s in their Maz so I am sure they wil be more help than I .Just a couple of thoughts though.I doubt that a stock old Maz coil is going to be able to overcome the resistance of 8 plugs and wires and fire the 302 like it should.May be wrong here but if u get a spark it wil be weak.Secondly, the alternator and its connections are the primary ground source for a Maz.What kind of alternator r u running? One wire GM,Ford or stock Maz.U got to have some kind of wires coming out the distributor-ie a wire to the coil, plug wires, and static suppresion grounds.R they there and hooked up.BJ

running the ford alt off the mazda wiring. and no im not nuts, the dist. doesnt have anything coming out. the injection consisted of 2 normal injectors setup in a tbi form. im trying to find the coil that was on the 302.

i checked again with a test light and the light does come on at the coil as well as the coil wire at the cap.

i have never seen a dist. with no wires coming out of it before, but thats the way the car ran before i pulled the motor out of it. it ran great and drove good

incase it helps.... i didnt want to run the tbi, but the intake is the same as the normal 2 barrel carb would use. so thats what i did

I know there are wireless ignition. My Volvo R runs coil packs for each cylinder, thus no plug wires.Have never seen a 302 with wireless ignition so I am at a loss.Does ur 302 have multiple coil packs for each bank of cylinders perchance-thus no wires?BJ

no no no. its normal. has a dist. with no wires going to it. the cap has nine nipples, (8 plugs wires, and coil) it looks like any other 302 v-8 just the dist. doesnt have any hookups. all it has inside it is a rotor, no pick ups or points.

edit............. wait a min. ok i got it! when you said wireless it reminded me of crank triggers. i forgot i tossed the old crank trigger thinking i didnt need it. i thought it was there to fire the injectors, but i found 8 slots in the balancer! ok so i have to get another dist. ok no biggie

thanks for the help
