Hey guys hows it goin

I got a 1986 Mazda 2.0 with the Weber 32/36mm carburator and all emissions deleted. I run a 2.5" exhaust with a high flow cat, stock header, and cherrybomb. I've got a 626 PCV and a apc breather, MSD SS Blaster coil.

I used to have the MSD 6AL, and i set it up to toss a few flames, i think i may have melted some parts in my exhaust..which could be another reason my truck is doing this. ..

Intermittently, when i hammer down past 5,000rpm.. I'll hear a backfiring/popping, but when its just sitting it won't backfire. The other thing is that i was stopped at a light a few nights ago..and all of a sudden it just bogged to like 3..400 rpm just sputtering n shit, and did it once again since then. I shut it off, turned it on again, and it seemed to be fine.

Im driving back to Thunder Bay from Sudbury next week, and I'd like to have the problem solved before then. Any ideas? Im thinking it's the fuel pump, maybe the PCV?..but i could be very wrong.

Thanks a mil.

Are you sure these are meant to go over 5000 rpm? My 88 B2200 mechanical fuel pump was under $25 from AutoZone, lifetime warranty, in stock, so maybe you could pick up one to take along as spare, then return it later. I replaced mine because of leaking.

doesnt sound like pump failure, less its an electric pump... but it kind of sounds like a timing issue..

5K rpm? LOL! If I remember, someone said that a little over 4.5k rpm, you risk screwing something up in the head? Can't remember...

Anyways, I think your problem with the exhaust is that it is too big. My exhaust is 2 and a 1/4 and it has not enough top end. It probably is why you backfire.

Although, bogging, and backfiring does also sound like timing, to me... Check it, 6 degrees BTDC.

I dunno about the bogg as well, it sounds liek a carb issue. But I dunno why it would be if it was...
