may be a dumb question but i have no idea so..

i am in the process of body dropping the bed on the 83 so that i can go ahead and finish the bed. i will raise it up sith spacers to keep it level with the cab when i am done. anyways here is the question...
i am going to install a fuel cell under the floor that i am building, what i need to know is what kind of sender should i be looking for. i already have an external electric fuel pump but i don't know what kind of sender to match the gauge. i always hear 0-90 ohm senders or 90-0 ohm senders. what do i need? the cell i am wanting to buy includes a 0-90 ohm sender and is a 16 gal racing fuel cell. it is 170 bucks and is black plastic. here is a pic...

0-90 ohm senders match up with most earlier GM cars. The stock 86-93 Mazda fuel gauge will not correctly work with that sender. If you get an after market gauge (or already have one) that is set for 0-90 then all is good. If you have an aftermarket gauge already, figure out what ohm range it is. If you are purchasing the fuel cell from a dealer, most of the time they will swap out the sending unit for one that matches the gauge that you have. And sorry, most companies do not make a sender that matches up to the 86-93 factory gauge. Also, sorry, have no idea what the 83 ohm range for the stock fuel gauge is, can only assume it is the same as the 86-93. Good luck, and as always PICS, PICS, PICS

i asked the same question abouth the sending unit and i got from it that the mazda is reversed.withchevy being 0 empty and 90 ohm full the mazda is 90 empty and 0 ohms full

i would stay away from the plastic ones. that was the first one i had in my truck.the good ole texas heat warped that thing like crazy and made it leak gas out of the bottom main fitting.and mine does read backwards but it never bothered me enough to change it i just lived with it.

thanks for the heads up with the tank. i have heard a lot of things about the aluminum ones cracking. so i will have to research it some more.

i was joking about the fuel gauge reading backwards today. if i have to do it that way for a little while i will. a guy i work with told me that he knows how to reverse the polarity to get it to read right so i may have him do that. i don't know that much about electrical stuff like that.
