on cold starts i have either one or two lifters that are sticking pretty bad. creating an embarassing tick tick tick.. after 40 - 50 secs they start moving and get quiet. just wondering if there is any easy way to fix this problem? ...

pour half a bottle of transmission fluid into your oil and run it until your next oil change itll clean carbon buildup from your oil pan and your lifters this was a tip from my engines teacher and it works

Change the oil to a 5w-30,put a genuine Maz filter in,get some Sea foam cleaner and run about a 1/4 can in the oil and 1/4 can in the tank and see if that wont quiet it down.U have varnish clogging the small holes that allow the lifters to pump up and a lighter weight oil plus the Seafoam may clean them out enough to allow them to pump up.Otherwise u will need to change lifters.BJ

using cleaning stuff to put in your oil is a waste of money its just going to make your engine worse in the long run

Bump. The Maz filter has a flap that prevents all the top end oil from draining back into the pan and allows better lubing in the top end and keeps the lifters from "dry starting".bj

just make sure not to get a fram filter

hmm.. trans fluid eh? I'll consider it.

Although I appreciate the seafoam suggestion, I have gone the seafoam route already. Other than a smoke show that's fun for kids to watch I find that it really made no difference. We actually sell it here at the parts store I work at.
I have run seafoam with hopes that it would make a difference in 3 different vehicles and found no noticable change in how the vehicle ran.
Oh, I never run fram filters. I only use wix.

What about any engine flush type products? or will that really just be the same deal as the trans fluid?

btw.. great avatar mazdachick LOL

transmission fluid is made mostly of a detergent and it mixes well with the oil, all the engine cleaner or flush stuff doesnt really mix with ur oil it ends up sitting and building up in your oil pan. if u take apart a oil filter u can see how cheaply some are made, a fram filter is made out of paper and it filters oil using holes in paper pretty much, i use a bosch filter.

lifters maybe out of adjustment.... stick a shim in em' and check the clearance.... there is a how to on putting the hydraulic lifters in it on the write up page...... then u wont have to deal with it anymore... unless u already have them.... then disregard all of wut i have just said....

the tranny fluid is tried and true.... u can trust it... love it... feel it... and um...... poor it... hahahahhahahahahaaaaaaa

but really... it does work... i use marvel mystery oil, which is like tranny fluid, but it has different additives and such in it... the tranny fluid will also make the seals swell soooooo if u have any minor leaks, it could help those a lil bit tooooooo
