The oil pan might be a problem as the big part of the pan(sump)is in front of the six banger. This is because the cross member of the MPV is in a different position than the pickup.

The 3.0 was never offered as an option in the pickup so the oil pan maybe the tip of the iceberg of problems you may face,

For what it's worth, the 2.6 FI may be your best bet. There really good motors with plenty of grunt. If you could drop the 3 liter V6 in it would be a nice bump in HP but the torque gain is minimum prob because both motors are close Cubic Inch wise.

Not sure what you want out of your truck, but a big 4 banger will give power & mpg in a small truck. If it's a daily driver that's not hauling big loads the Mazda made 2.6 FI feels like a small V6 without the mpg hit.

This swap was one I concidered when I first started my project. At the time Corksport was still importing motors and that J series V6 was available in a turbocharged version. My plan was to get a motor and ecu from Corksport and an AWD drivetrain from a MPV locally and stuff it under my truck.

Of course that was all because I wanted AWD. If you don't care, I bet you could wrangle in the MPV drivetrain/ecu w/ moderate electrical and metal fab work.

the bellhousing from the 929 v6 will let the J series hang off of a b2600 gearbox. the v6 in the probe was some crappy american one, vulcan or something? you can get a 929 jap spec 3.0v6 with dohc heads, that will blow away our fe3s easy. sumps are a non issue, some sheet metal and the same mig that you need to make the engine mounts will do it. using the ecu from the donor car is an option (a random ecu is not a (good) option). megasquirt or other standalone is also a good choice. ms can be on the car for well less than 500us dollars.

if you dont go 929 dohc, then its a significant hassle for not that much more than the 2.6.

those are my thoughts anyway.

From what I've read the 2.5L DOHC V6 MX6/Probe motor was a Mazda motor & was well liked. The 3L SOHC V6 motor from the MPV wasn't anything to write home about.

Now that 929 motor looks great on paper & has a ton of torque so would be great in a light truck i bet. I would love to see some pic's of one in a 86-93 B series? How much sheet metal removal is needed?

Also how does a project like that run $500? The engines i see on EBay run $700-800 alone?

i owned a 2.5l v6 mx6, and that thing was pretty quick. but had nothing but problems with the elictrical and they go through distributors like every 20k.

there is a fix for the kl dizzy. there is no native mazda oem bell for the kl engine though.

the sohc mpv j series v6 is just as crap as any other sohc motor of any kind. nothing special. the dohc one that was available. a totally different kettle of fish!

i said you can put ms on a car for 500us. not build the car you are putting it on ms with lots of options can be had for that money, or a more basic tune by nose low spec version for about 130us plus some ingenuity.

fred.
