Smoke from the bottom rear left of engine bay

Hi all!

Last spring I bought an '86 B2000 off some guy for $280 CDN and recently spent some time with my 17-year old son getting the truck back on the road.

I recently swapped in a working carb (the original one was causing the engine to bog down) and got the engine running more regular.

However, I now noticed a lot of smoke (smells like oil) coming up from the bottom rear passenger side of the engine. I haven't had time to take a real good look but I'm wondering what in that area could be causing all this smoke?

The exhaust looks and smells normal (not burning antifreeze) and does not appear black.

All recommendations/questions are welcome!

Cheers !!

check entire exhaust make sure nothing crawled in there and died also look for oil dripping onto the exhaust

I would suspect a cracked valve cover or a leaky valvecover seal. They tend to smoke from the rear due to the tilt of the engine in the bay. Oil is probably seeping onto your ehaust manifold.

That's was my first thought as well. But where would the oil be dripping from... perhaps the valve cover gasket needs changing?

The exhaust is not that new, it's just new to the truck.

I took it off my '87 B2000 with the blown head gasket and slapped it on the '86.

Given this post is going up on Halloween, the '86 is going to be a real Frankenstein of a truck. In all, it's going to have parts from at least 6 trucks, as well as a custom lumber carrying rack.
