I am looking to change the gears in my 91 single cab. I would like to go with some gears more suitable for highway usage. The gas mileage on this thing is worse than my full size chevy. Any advice on gears would be appreciated. Thanks

not many options...is it a b2200, or b2600? the 2200's rear is 3.09:1, only option for the rear is a gear set out of an 84-85 rx-7 gsl-se which is an lsd, the gearing is 4.07:1 which won't help out your mpg....you could do a 5th gear swap from an rx-7's tranny, info on that can be found here which would help out your mpg situation...

as far as the 2600, the rears are swapable with later model rx-7 turbos, not sure of either of their gear ratios...probably the same would go for the trannys...

It is a b2200. I am not looking to get that technical. I just thought maybe I could change the rearend out to something with a different gear ratio. Or possibly just buy some aftermarket gears.

i would try and look into what is making it so bad, personally i think if your mileage is that bad the rear end gearing is the least of your worries.

Just out of curiousoty (spelling) what kind of average gas mileage should I be getting.

with the stock Nikki carb and no fiddling with the tune?About 20 on a good day,18 on a bad one.with a 32/36 or a 34/34 Weber and some judicious tuning about 23-24 in town, 27-28 on the road at 70 mph.BJ

20 is about right, imo. im assuming fullsize = 12 or so, so if youre really getting that low id at least do a basic tuneup before pulling the rear out

There are no gear sets for a 2200/2600 that are direct swap outs. You will need to convert to another make of rear like Toyo to get rear gear set options. As posted above, work on tuning the engine and forget the rear end.bj
