So yeah, found one at the local junkyards and pulled it for 185 total. Ive read about some people doing this conversion and just had a couple of questions.
1. I have a 92 B2000 thats carb. What would be the best way to make my truck fuel injected? Its more of the wiring info i need. I have read that some people just pull the tank out of a FI model. Im just curious how you would wire up the fuel pump.
2. Would it just be easier to wire up an inline fuel pump?
3. Im hoping to just modify my firewall and not have to go EDIS. Anyone know how much modifying it would take to do this? Or is there any other way other than going EDIS so I can keep the 626 stock ECU?
4. Any other hints or problems that I might run into?

I am going to go through the motor but so far the motor is pretty clean. It came out of a 91 626 that had a dash fire. Either the guy/girl had the stereo or car alarm wired wrong cause the car had both of these.

nice find and cheap too! good luck.

get a haynes manual for 626 n/a and turbo. it has the wiring schematics.

ps: air flow meter has a safety contact for the fuel pump circuit.

Yeah. I originally went to help a friend find a harness from a 89 integra and found that the engine was unmolested. I had to wait a week to get it, but to my surprise it was still there when I went back to pull it. The altenator and starter were brand new. It looked like the car was well maintained. Checked oil, antifreeze and spark plugs and all checked good. I definitely got more than I bargained for. If i find a junker motor I will even get my $25 core fee back, so I would only have paid 160 for motor, accesories, harness, turbo, and a couple of other miscellaneous parts... Not too shabby lol.... I will do a tech write up hopefully when I start the swap this spring.

congrats on the steal, what the person @ the yard blind? lol haha!

deffinately do what 89b2200 said, invest in a shop manual / chiltons, it will take a little of the headache out of the swap.....

on the fuel pump, you'll need to know what psi the stock 626 ran at, then choose a pump accordingly, easiest thing to do would be to install an elect fuel pump, wiring isn't too hard, and a couple of example diagrams can be found on the pdf's for these aeromotive pumps
not too hard to wire, a relay kit from jegs is @ $40 bucks & makes life a lot easier...

here are a couple diagrams of both efi carb'd systems from aeromotive

you could use the smaller efi pump diagram, which would be overkill, but you'd never have to worry about upgrading again.

these are just examples, and you can get cheaper pumps from summit or jegs, but it is a place for ya to start.....

you'll have to clearance the firewall a decent amount, but if you arent' a wiring person that may be the way to go....also if you don't want to run the stock ecu, you could run a redline setup see here with the stock dizzy or adapt it to distributorless like the edis

good luck!

LOL... Funny you should say that. Anyway, we have junkyards here that you pay 2 dollars and you go in and try to find what you are looking for. They have vehicles separated like imports, ford, etc. Well, when I went last week I found that diamond in the rough. At first I thought the motor might have been blown because the car's body was in decent shape. But when i went to open the door...... Yeah couldnt even see through the windshield. There was both a alarm and kappa perfect series speakers that were burnt. Im not sure what caused the fire, but the engine was in damn good condition.

Anyway so pulled the motor, talked to the guy at the counter and he asked questions as to what I pulled and I said motor with accesories and he asked if I had the alternator and starter. I said altenator and then I paid him and I was on my way. I am kind of pissed cause I should have gotten the intercooler as well. Oh well. Still a steal either way you look at it.

I was trying to keep the stock ECU. I have done wiring before, just dont know how to wire a fuel pump up to a vehicle that had a manual unit. I looked online but couldnt find any solid info. Also, I plan on usual a fuel pressure regulator so i figured size didnt really matter if I had one of those.

Thanks for the info though. Anyone you know that has used that redline system before?

kool, I'd go back & get the intercooler for sure, esp at those prices!

not too much of an issue on the wiring, the 626 engine didn't have a mech pump did it? if it did, you can remove it, and make a block off plate for the opening in the head, if it didn't have one, no sweat since the trucks was a mech unit....

here is a basic wiring diagram for an elect fuel pump

all you do is run a fused wire off the battery to one leg of the relay, off the switched side of that leg to the fuel pump, also you'll have a switched 12v source from the trucks ignition, this is what pulls the relay in, and closes the switched side of the pumps power....ground the relay & the pump, and your in business!

as far as the redline stuff, no I don't know anyone right off hand that has used it, but they make a quality product.....on that note if you have the stock ecu & harness i'd use it until you feel like upgrading to something like the redline or megasquirt/edis type of systems.

I,ve always wanted a more reliable, smooth quiet runnin b with more power, maybe this is the answer. I have seen the turbo done by replacing the top end, and tonnes of custom fabrication work , I think this will be better and less work and prolly more reliable.

Keep us updated

I will keep everyone posted. I will be taking pics as I progress and possibly doing a tech write up on it. However, for the time being I will just update you guys on this post.

In case you guys havent seen this, its where I got some info on the swap.

here is the link to the throttle bodys from twmi
they work like two side draft carbs (weber dcoe's), you'd have to make a manifold for this application, but it would be fi instead of carb'd....then make a air box to hook the turbo into...it would be a sweet setup for sure!

or get a camden s/c and a stand alone & one of these throttle bodies or two and you'd have a good reliable setup too...
