Painting the valve cover

When this sweetmother rain quits falling, I have to replace my valve cover gasket. Whilst off, I planned to paint the valve cover red, for lack of something better to do and I figured it would look cool. Anyone done this? I was wondering what primer to use, etc. I would have it powdercoated red, but me and the local powder coater don't get along since I called his mother a whore.

Any info would be helpful.

OOh-that wasnt nice.Lol.Several companies make a high heat metal primer and ceramic coating.I have painted lots of engine parts with the ceramic and it works great.BJ

Is it something you can get at a store, or is it mail order only? Can you remember the name so I could google it?

It was nothing special.I got it from Pep Boys here locally.I think it was Duplicolor High Heat or something like that.I used the chrome top coat and it looked very nice.bj

get self-etching primer..spray a 2 coats of that. sand it and paint away.

hey man you can talk to the guy by the name of ken over on mazdatruckin.com he powdercoated my valve cover for me. hes got prices listed and everything. he lives in nc so shipping isnt that bad for you.

its dirty as hell right now but this kind of gives you an idea. its called wet black but he has red and some other colors as well
